Geared Signal

What you see in Jeff Wood's photo is some home-brew blanking pieces attached to a standard background.  Looks like the maintainer didn't have standard blanks and made his own from tin can lids or some such thing.

Standard blanking pieces are punched with four bend-over locking tabs on them.  The blanking piece is snugged up to the background and the tabs are bent down to hold it in place.
