ICC Report 732 can be viewed at:
http://www1.librarydigital.com/scripts/ws.dll?websearch&site=dot_railroads
The report states that the estimated speed of westbound Train 37, Eng. 558,
was 10 to 12 mph, and that the estimated speed of eastbound Train 14, Eng.
102, was 18 to 20 mph. The two trains collided on the siding at their
meeting point, and the report states, "This accident was caused by train No.
14 taking the siding at Rural Retreat to meet No. 37 when by rule it should
have held the main track."

Subject: 1920 Rural Retreat Wreck Photos

For those who haven't seen them already, some very good pictures of the 1920
wreck at Rural Retreat have been posted on the fallen flags web site.
http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nw/nw.html

The link to the wreck photos are near the bottom of the page. One of the six
links is http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nw/nw-rrwrk-ech.jpg.

One of the links lists the incident as being reported in ICC report 731. How
does one get a copy of this report? I'm curious as to the details of the
wreck such as how fast was the closing speed of the two trains and what was
reported as the cause. This view of the crowd out to watch the clean up is
interesting as it appears that people dressed up for the event.
