12 pole line

The last time that NWHS had its convention in Williamson, I took a full day  
to follow the route of Twelve Pole Line, now a two lane road.  Most  
interesting part of the trip was at Dingess Tunnel.  I was photographing  the south 
portal of the tunnel when a red Ford entered the tunnel, which was  single track 
for the N&W and therefore one lane for vehicles.
Within a few seconds, I heard the muffled blast of an air horn, at which  
point the Ford came out of the tunnel, going backwards at full speed.  In  those 
parts, coal trucks have the right of way - forget about who entered the  
tunnel first.
