In particular, Shaffers Crossing refers to the long underpass beneath the
railroad tracks in the west end of Roanoke. In general it refers to the
railroad yard and mechanical facilities for several blocks east and west of
the underpass. The street leading to the north end of the underpass is 24th
St., NW, and the street leading to the south end is Boulevard, SW.

Can someone give me a street location for Shafers Crossing? I'm not that
familiar with Roanoke.

NOTE: Grandfather "doubled the road" this day, and made it home in 25 hours
and 25 minutes. Notice how fast the trains were getting over the road in
the
1920s? They were making better time than today, even with all the stops
they
made.
