Didn't SNCF build a batch of 1-4-1Rs itself? My last revenue steam-
hauled standard gauge Class 1 (I think SNCF qualifies as a Class
One!) passenger train trip was behind a 1-4-1R out of Le Havre in
1967. I enjoyed it, but I was more impressed by the SNCF electric
that took over after a while and took us to Paris - we flew!

Re Military Railways, it might be of interest to some that many
military engines were constructed for the French National Railways in
the early and mid 40's by US and Canadian steam manufacturers. All
following listed were 2-8-2's (with the exception of a Porter
0-6-0T), all classed 141-R. This is certainly only a partial listing:

HK Porter (Pittsburgh) Jan 1944 Ser #7669 Road #6089
Canadian Loco Works 1947 2398 1331
(Kingston/ONT)
Lima (Lima/OH) Sep 1946 9186

BLW (Phila/PA) May 1946 72500 Unk
BLW (Phila/PA) Feb 1947 73017

Alco (Schenectady/NY) Dec 1945 74209 Unk
Lima (Lima/OH) Dec 1945

Montreal Loco Works Jan 1947 75070 1261
