http://www.wsrhs.org/mercicar.htm is a website with infomation on many 
cars, unfortunately in need of updating on ours in Virginia.
It's sad to see how  many of the cars were scrapped or destroyed, but a 
good thing that most, like ours were preserved.
Indeed, it's OR. These are much smaller than modern boxcars.
