The painting of signals is a thing of the past. The position light signals are so far gone it would be 

a waste of resources to paint them and would not add any service life. Just look Pretty for railfans. 

The Maintainers that I know say they will be glad when they're all gone. They have had a good life.

 But they all leak and suffer from internal corrosion So many EPA rules about paint and lead that the

 railroads don't even paint some bridges Finding it cheaper to replace the girders than pay for all the

 environmentally clean up that comes with sandblasting and painting.
