On September 28th, 2006, through October 1st, the
Cleveland area will be host to the first Van Sweringen
Advisory Mechanical Commitee(AMC) joint convention.
This convention will include the annual conventions of
the Nickel Plate Historical and Technical Society, the
Erie-Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society, and
the Erie-Lackawanna Historical Society. The
convention will also include several representatives
of the Chesapeake and Ohio Historical Society.

The Van Sweringen Advisory Mechanical Committee
railroads were the Erie, the Nickel Plate, the
Chesapeake and Ohio, and the Pere Marquette. There
will be clinics for all railfans, enthusiasts, and
modelers of these railroads, and more. Registrants do
not have to be members of any of the participating
organizations. Registration for the convention itself
is $25; that fee provides entry to all clinics, dealer
and display areas, and to the organizations'
membership meetings.

The convention will be in downtown Cleveland, and is
formally hosted by the Northern Ohio Association of
Railroad Societies (NOARS). Well known clinicians,
including names known to those of us who hang out on
these lists, will be presenting: Gene Huddleston, Tony
Koester, Tom Dixon, Fritz Millhaupt, Karen Parker, and
many others.

Why post this on an N&W list? I'm sure most of you
know this already, but: the NKP was merged into the
N&W in 1964. The Erie, through the EL, was controlled
by the N&W by the late 60's(?). And the Virginian AG
and BA are basically AMC steam locomotive designs.
Hope to see a lot of you in beautiful downtown
Cleveland.
