HISTORIC TOURS PLANNED FOR THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE HISTORIC
SOCIETY OF WESTERN VIRGINIA

The Historical Society of Western Virginia will host two tours to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the society, as well as celebrate
the 125th birthday of Roanoke and the 400th anniversary of the
Commonwealth. The two tours planned will be an Historic Tour of
Roanoke and a Rail Heritage tour. Both tours will be held on March
25th and April 15th, 1-4 p.m., Admission is $12.00 per person per
tour and reservations are required.

The historic tour of Roanoke is a 3 hour tour of landmarks in
Roanoke. The tour will consist of general Roanoke history provided by
a local historian and places of special interest such as Hotel
Roanoke, No.1 Fire Station, Buena Vista House and Crystal Spring
Steam Pump. The tour will start at and return to the Crystal Spring
Steam Pump.

The Rail Heritage Tour will highlight historic and current rail sites
around Roanoke including the Norfolk Southern Shops, Shaffer's
Crossing, Virginian Station and O. Winston Link Museum. It will start
at and return to the O. Winston Link Museum.

Bus transportation for both tours will be provided by Commonwealth
Coach & Trolley, a stable of vintage buses.
