To Gordon and other listers:  These mistakes are more common than  should be 
acceptable in any realm of research;  I encounter similar errors  in the world 
of baseball (my other passion).  Example; one well known book  on baseball 
parks describes the top of the right field wall of  Philadelphia's Shibe park as 
sloping downward from right field to center  field.  It was, in fact, level 
the entire distance.
 
I usually write to the publisher (and the author, if I can locate) and let  
them know of the correction.  Sadly, few bother to even acknowledge the  
communication.  So the error becomes carved in stone.  Future  generations of 
researchers will, without realizing it, enter a minefield of  misinformation.
