Stoppage of Work on Catawba Valley Road Only Temporary

Salem, VA., Sept. 20. -- Some surprise, accompanied by more or
less of consternation, was caused a few days ago when the contractors
on the upper end of the Catawba Valley Railway company were notified
to discontinue work on same when it was completed to the Bennett
Springs crossing. As no explanation was then given, it was feared by
some that this meant that the road would not be completed in the near
future. This, however, it is stated upon good authority is not the
solution of the case. The road will be completed, the track laid and
trains put on to the Bennett Springs crossing as quick as possible.
The suspension of work on the upper end of the line is only temporary
and was ordered because the company found it would be to its interest
to push this end and hold up for the time being on the upper end of
the line. The whole road will be pushed to completion, however, in
the very near future, according to statements made by persons in a
position to know, therefore, there is nothing for croakers and
calamity howlers to feed upon in the temporary suspension of the work
on the upper end of the line.
