Mr. Nichols, I guess I missed this, what "Official N&W Publication" are you quoting from?

Rodney

Frank: I don't have a scanner, but I can tell you where the photo is -
page 218 of Wabash by Donald J. Heimburger (Heimburger House, 1984).
BTW, on the preceding page there is a 1962 roster of passenger cars
which does not list this series. Thankfully, they are listed in the
Official Register. As to why - if you know the N&W of that era, you know
how they liked to do things for themselves. Maybe they wanted to keep
the workers in the passenger car shop employed with something to do. As
best I know, New Haven did not have a resource like Roanoke Shops. Thus,
it was more logical for them to lease Santa Fe surplus cars. Roanoke, on
the other hand, had all these ex Wabash and ex NKP head end cars on
their hands. It is just possible that they used parts from another car
in the series to double the length of the RPO apartment in 160 (nee Wab
454). For whatever reason, they wanted one more 60' RPO, so they made
one out of what they had one hand (and didn't need). Really....I am
getting tired of continuing to quote the same official information for
the doubters about this car. We have established that it is NOT an ex
Frisco car, and I have quoted an official publication of the N&W which
identifies it as ex Wabash 454, and says it was rebuilt in 1967. Your
photlo clearly shows that it is a 60' RPO, and the 1966 Official
Register lists "Wabash" 451-456 as "Baggage & Mail with a 40' baggage
section and a 30' RPO. Unless somebody has some additional information
(rather that just opinions), I think we should give it a rest. Jim Nichols
