HAS CONTRACTED FOR FIVE TUNNELS
-----
Deepwater Railway Construction to be Rapidly Pushed
-----
The Deepwater railroad has contracted for five tunnels along the route of that road, the aggravate cost of which will be $500,000. The contract has been let to the contracting firm Mason, Hodge and Company, of Ohio, and work will be commenced by these people at once. H. B. Hanger will be the contractors' representative on the ground and under his direction the work will be pushed to an early completion.
The Deepwater railroad is being built from Deepwater at the mouth of Lower Loup creek just above Montgomery on the Kanawha river. The route is through the country to the Pocahontas coal fields and then east to some point in Virginia, presumably Norfolk. The construction work is under the direction of Major Page, of Ansted, Fayette county, president of the corporation.
