US11W does go from Bristol to Kingsport, but not on a railroad grade . . .

Is this not a HIGHWAY road ?

Having been fascinated with the rail ROADs mentioned I found the info more than interesting. The multiple lines along US 23 make the trip a study in mountain ops. The interchange of so many lines in Norton has always been exciting since I was a child.

Does anyone know if this thing was ever built? I can't think of a railway line between Bristol and Kingsport. The Southern ran from Bristol southeast toward Johnson City, and the Clinchfield ran through Johnson City north through Kingsport. The ET&WNC also connected at Johnson City and headed east through Elizabethton. The VSW ran from Elizabethton north through Bristol toward Gate City.

I can't find or think of any RR that went from Bristol to Kingsport. Was it ever built or graded for?

Want Right of Way Donated

Bristol, Va., Nov. 12 - Special - Farmers of Sullivan county,
Tennessee will be asked to donate rights of way for the proposed
Bristol and Kingsport railway a line of road that is badly needed
through the county, and which would be of incalculable benefit to the
numerous farmers who have for years been without a road which they
could use in winter to bring their products to market. Surveys for
the new road will made at once. Former Governor Cox, who is president
of the company, is very much interested in the project and will use
his best efforts to give the county a road without delay.
