MISCREANTS STONE TRAINS NEAR BLUESTONE JUNCTION
------
At Bluestone Junction some miscreant, on Monday night, as a passengdr train was passing, threw a rock and struck Conductor Foster in the side. On Tuesday night a crowd gathered near there and threw stones at the train, one of them striking Conductor Wall, who drew his pistol and fired. The mob ran when the firing began. It is thought that the perpetrators of these annoyances are men working on public improvements in that section, who have a grudge against the conductors because they are not allowed to do as they please when returning from Pocahontas filled with bad liquor.

[Pistol packing passenger conductors? As I have noted previously, passenger trains could have some rough characters as passengers when they were the only travel mode.]
