TRIED TO SHOOT CONDUCTOR MORAN
------
Obstreperous Passenger on Train No. 4 Held for Giles county Grand Jury
------
Evidence Sufficient to Indict Him on Three Counts
------
As passenger train No. 4 pulled into Pembroke Friday a white man who had been drinking heavily began to feel the effects of this whiskey, and gave evidence of the fact by vomiting copiously, besmearing the seat he was occupying and the one directly in front. When the train came to standstill, he roused himself with a start, and commenced to hand out a line of conversation that made the air blue. Leaning out of the window, he cursed the people at the depot roundly, then drawing his head in again he began to vilify the other passengers, the train crew and every one within reach of his voice.
Captain Moran, who was in charge of the train, went forward to remonstrate with the man, telling him that such conduct could not and would not be tolerated, whereupon the fellow drew his pistol and attempted to shoot the conductor.
Before he could fire, however, the conductor had grabbed his pistol arm, and with the assistance of Brakeman Garland and News Agent Roach, quickly overpowered the rowdy, who was turned over to the crew of No. 1 and sent back to Pearisburg for trial. The fellow was given a preliminary hearing yesterday and held for the Giles county grand jury, there being sufficient evidence to indict him on three different counts.
