Thanks for this bit of news, Gordon. I never realized that Galax was a creation of the railroad and so recent.

NORFOLK AND WESTERN STILL THE TOWN BUILDER
------
The Norfolk and Western railway has designated Bonaparte as the name of the new town at the terminus of its Cripple Creek division.
This town is located on the line of Grayson and Carroll counties, VA., though principally in Grayson county, to which the railroad is being rapidly pushed.
Large business houses have purchased lots, and many houses are going up. Among the firms that have purchased lots are Blair Grocery Company, wholesale grocery; J. B. Waugh & Son, commission merchants; Lindsey Brothers and Muse, dry goods. The Mount Airy Furniture Company proposes to erect a $30,000 factory, while a company is being organized to erect a large tannic acid extract plant. Already this new town has a bank in a flourishing condition.
