John already knows this, but Chapelon visted N&W in November 1938 and was impressed by what he saw while riding Y6 2122. I've often wondered what correspondence accompanied this visit. Maybe something in the NWHS archives or Roanoke Chapter NRHS will tell us? It's a tantillizing prospect that there may have been some exchange of information. N&W's final modifications seemed to follow some of Chapelon's ideas, adapted for US operations, and Chapelon's late designs incorporated some of the US and N&W features he saw (roller bearings, cast frames, boxpok drivers).
