VIRGINIAN OFFICIALS ON A TOUR OF INSPECTION
------
Go Over Road With Contractors Who Built It Preparatory to Laying Rails Which Will Begin Soon
------
A party of officials of the Virginian railroad accompanied by representatives of MacArthur Bros., the well-known contractors, left Roanoke Monday for a trip over the portion of the Virginian that was built by MacArthur Brothers, a distance of one hundred and eight miles.
The party consisting of General Manager Dupuy, Chief Engineer Fernstrom, General Attorney Knight, Assistant Chief Engineer Elmore, Superintendent Taylor, and Messrs. A. V. MacArthur, vice president and general manager of MacArthur Brothers; D. Madden, general superintendent; David Sloan, chief engineer; Judge H. W. McGee and Mr. A. E. Snyder of the office of MacArthur Brothers, are making an inspection of the road bed preparatory to the laying of the rails, which work will be commenced soon if the grade is accepted. They walked yesterday from Pembroke to Glen Lyn.
They left Roanoke in the Virginian private car Dixie and went west twenty-three miles to Ellett on their own tracks. The private car was then taken back to the Norfolk and Western and transferred to a point farther west to meet the inspecting party, who walked or traveled horseback along the line where the rails had not been laid. Yesterday the Dixie was picked up at Pembroke by No. 1 and carried as far as Glen Lyn, where it was run on to a siding to await the arrival of the officials.
