Here is a photo of the southward bracket signal at old Ashby on the
Shenandoah line taken a few weeks ago. Yes, the signal at old Ashby was
taken down Monday, and the last time I saw it, it was in a dumpster there.
The northward colorlight signal is being reused. The old CPL northward
home signal was retired last fall to make room for the new double track.
It went in a dumpster too.
Now, lets look at the bright side, shall we? This is four miles of NEW
doubletrack on the Shenandoah line, and the old signals had to leave
because they weren't needed at this location anymore. There's a new
crossover at Success, and Ashby was moved three miles south. Despite the
fact that the economy and such is down, the railroad is growing again. I
hear that there are plans for even more doubletrack projects and growth.
It's not all bad.
