NEW PASSENGER RATE IS NOW EFFECTIVE
------
Many People Bought Tickets in Advance at Old Rate

The new interstate [sic] passenger rate on the Norfolk and Western of two and a half cents a mile, according to a decision of the court's, went into effect last night at midnight. The rate out of Bluefield is now two and a half cents to all local West Virginia stations, instead of two cents as heretofore. For instance the old rate to Kenova was $3.70, and the present rate is $4.55.
It is understood that a great many people who do a lot of traveling over the Norfolk and Western in the state purchased a large number of tickets before the change went into effect.
------
[It is obvious from the article that the change was to intrastate rates rather than interstate rates. The ticket costs were blurred in the microfilm, so the best interpretations are shown.]
