IN CITY AND COALFIELD
------
Did Some Riding
J. B. Purcell, of Welch, was in the city yesterday. Purcell was on his way home from over in the Chesapeake and Ohio territory and says he had to ride seven trains on five railroads to get home last night. In addition to this he had to walk two miles.
------
[It's possible to come up with the last three railroads he rode, but the other two railroads must have been in C&O territory, although it is difficult to speculate without knowing exactly where he started. The last three railroads were likely the C&O to Deepwater, the Virginian to Matoaka, and the N&W to Bluestone Junction (and another N&W train to Welch).]

------

Addition to Freight Depot
Carpenters were at work yesterday making an addition to the local freight depot. The company has plans for a new station which will considerably enlarge the present building.
