Unfortunately N&W did not buy boxcars of AAR design - preferred their own, although similar. The N&W cars had a continuous side sill. The B5s in the 49500 series were built in 1940, in the 48000 series were built in 1941-42: and the B6's in the 46000-46491 series were built in 1944-45, in the 43500 series in 1946-47. You might try Champ for decals. Believe it or not, they are still in business and have an on-line catalog

Subject: AAR 40' box cars?

I returned from a train show today with a generous handful of AAR steel 40' box cars - mostly Athearn, but a few others as well.  I'm not impressed with the paint or details, so a little work is in order.  As such, I have an opportunity to repaint and re-letter the cars.

Did the N&W have any such cars in 1940?  If so, what did they look like?  What road numbers?  Are there HO scale decals available for them?
