INTERESTING STORY OF SICK MAN'S START TOWARDS WEALTH
Dr. C. M. Scott received a message from Paintsville, Ky., last night advising him of the serious illness of John C. C. Mayo and asking that he go at once to Paintsville. The message arrived in this city too late for the doctor to catch No. 3 and he called Dr. Morton, at Paintsville, to advise him of the fact. He was told to immediately charter a special train and come at once. At 11 o'clock the special was ready and left for Fort Gay, from which point it will go down the Big Sandy branch of the Chesapeake and Ohio to Paintsville.
Dr. Scott was accompanied by his wife, who is a daughter of Dr. Morton, the family physician of the Mayo's, and Miss Echols, a nurse from St. Luke's hospital.
[The balance of the long article pertains to how Mayo made his fortune in land and coal and is omitted here.]
------
[This reporter must be a miracle worker to have a train cross the Big Sandy River at Fort Gay where there is no railroad bridge to the C&O side.]
