So I'm being lazy, in that I don't feel like searching through my books 
at the moment to get the detailed answers for these questions.

What railroads made up the original N&W? Where were they from and to and 
the years the started and them when they became part of the N&W.

What railroad was the first to reach Roanoke "Big Lick" was it the 
Shenandoah Valley Railroad? Date please.

Also what was the name of the railroad that went east-west through 
Roanoke that started out Broad Gauge and interchanged with SVRR?
