IN CITY AND COALFIELD
------
Willing to Give $100
George E. Smith, of Portsmouth, O., was in town yesterday and said the proposition to give a bonus fund to the Virginian if that road will enter Bluefield looks good to him. Smith says that as agent for the National Cash Register Company he is willing to donate $100 to the fund. Mr. Smith feels certain that two railroads do not hurt railroad business, but on the other hand, he holds they help it by developing more freight with the result that both the Norfolk and Western and the Virginian would do an amount of business greater than is being handled now and this business could by proper effort be made to pay a good profit on account of the increased volume of business to be handled.
