IN CITY AND COALFIELD
------
Anthracite Road Bought by N. & W.

The Norfolk and Western has bought the Virginia Anthracite railroad extending from Christiansburg to Blacksburg. The price paid was $100,000. The Norfolk & Western was the only bidder for the property. The road is ten miles long.

[The enclosed photo is of the unusual Merrimac of the Virginian Anthracite RR, which served an anthracite mine at Merrimac Mines, 5.1 miles from Christiansburg, VA. This locomotive was scrapped in 1916. As is well known, the train on this line became known at the "Huckleberry."]
