Steam (and Diesel) Pusher Cuttoffs (& Emergency Brakes)

I am re-reading mail from several months back regarding air lines, brakes, and pushers.

It was mentioned that the air line on the pusher is left open, causing the loco to go into emergency. This begs the question: will an emergency train brake application stop a locomotive from pushing: steam?, first generation diesel?, current generation? (I'm guessing that there are overrides on current locos that will shut down the throttle?)
