Interstate Railroad Asks Permission to Condemn Property at Norton
The Interstate Railroad Company has applied to the Virginia state corporation commission for permission to condemn a part of the right of way of the Norfolk and Western Railroad [sic] at Norton. The case will be heard by the commission November 23rd.
The Interstate Railway [sic] wishes to establish a station at Norton, and to obtain the necessary terminal facilities it desires to obtain a part of the right of way of the older road at that place. How much of the property is wanted is not yet made clear, but should the demand be granted it seems that the stations of both roads will be within easy reach and that the handling of freight will be reduced to the minimum and passengers will also be benefited.
------
[The Interstate was completed into Norton from the west in 1909, but apparently N&W was not disposed to accommodate the Interstate because N&W earlier had established relations with the L&N for its western connection at Norton.]
