IN CITY AND COALFIELD
------
Steps Through Bridge
Barney Shumate, who is at. the Miners' Hospital suffering from a broken hip and a broken arm, is doing as well as can be expected. Barney stepped off a caboose at Iaeger on Thursday night and because of the dark did not notice his cab was standing on a bridge. He fell through the ties in the bridge, sustaining injuries which made it necessary to send him to the hospital where he will be forced to remain for several weeks. Mr. Shumate is a local freight conductor.

------

[This resembles a fatal accident to Bluefield Master Mechanic Tucker many years ago. He was at the scene of a wreck on the Pocahontas Division one night when he boarded the wreck car diner for some food. Unbeknownst to him the wreck train moved while he was in the diner, and the diner stopped over a bridge. When Tucked stepped off the diner in the darkness he fell to the ground below and was killed.]
