Ron,

I sincerely hope you took no offence at my explanation of your term Roanoke Jct. I 'm certain everyone following your reports of the changes in that area knew exactly what you were refering to.

I, as I am sure many others, appreciate the time and effort you have spent keeping us all up to date of all the major changes that are being made and will be made in that area within the next six months, or so. I know it takes time and effort to get out there and get those photos. You can't just grab a snapshot while driving over the bridge!! It takes planning and TIME.

Thanks for what you are doing to record this and share it with the rest of us.

Jeff

Abram,

I simply used the term Roanoke Junction to describe the area between Randolph Street and Commerce Street. Since this covers multiple control points, selecting one or more seemed a bit of a problem.

This was strictly an unofficial designation by me to describe the area covered by the photos of the construction.

It is interesting that back when some new signals were put up to replace the old N&W CPLs in the area around "Randolph St." some of the newer employees started calling signals at "Williamson Rd." instead of Randolph St. Of course, Randolph St hasn't been Randolph Street for probably 80 years. Nevertheless, the name stuck as far as railroad terminology. Also interesting, and for me refreshing, when NS started erecting signs at various "named" control points, the sign that went up at that particular place was, you guessed it, "Randolph St."!
