*History*. -- Organized March 10, 1884, to build an extension from a
junction with the Bright Hope Ry. to Farmville, Va., a distance of 64
miles. Track laying began May 18, 1889, and at the close of that year 39
miles were completed. On July 23, 1889, the company purchased at
foreclosure sale for $200,000 the line and property of the Bright Hope Ry.
Co., extending from Bermuda to Eppes' Falls, 32.75 miles. Early in 1890 the
line was opened from Sunnyside to Farmville, thus forming it through line
from Bermuda to Farmville. (For history of the Bright Hope Ry. Co., see
MANUAL for 1888, page 561, and MANUAL for 1889, page 551).

*Rolling Stock, Operations, etc.* -- Not reported.

*Financial Statement*. -- Capital stock authorized (par, $100), common,
$500,000; preferred, $500,000; funded debt authorized, $320,000 6 per cent.
coupon bonds and $500,000 2d mortgage income bonds -- total stock and bonds
authorized, $1,820,000.

*History*. -- Chartered in perpetuity, June 30, 1905, under the laws of
Virginia, as successor to the Farmville and Powhatan RR. Co., whose
property was sold under foreclosure June 7, 1905 (see Manual for 1905, page
257).

*Receivership*. -- On application of the stockholders and directors,
Langbourne M. Williams was appointed receiver of the company on May 14,
1917.

*Dismantled*. -- In June, 1918, the property was dismantled (see Manual for
1917, page 178).
