I'm not certain of this, but in examining my drawings yesterday, I found a floor plan, no elevations, dated March of 1949(I think, maybe 1948, I have to look again) that noted that this was scheme 1, and a note on it said, "Removal of towers", which I'd interpret as removal of the high portion only, as the floor plan reflected the waiting rooms still in place.

I did not have a copy of "scheme 2", so who knows what that might say.

However, the removal of the towers would fall into play on the remodel that was completed later that year.
