NY fans (or visitors to New York City and Long Island) this summer might want to
visit Planting Fields – the estate of William Robertson Coe, a long time
director, (1910-1955) and brief time president (1940s) etc of the Virginian
Railway

Until September 2, they have an exhibit on Coe’s railway interests, particularly
the Virginian.

The Virginian had a tugboat named for Coe – after the merger the unsentimental
N&W renamed it the R.B. Claytor.

Sheesh.

In any case -- there are lovely gardens there -- so the guys can take their
wives for the day, and surprise them (promise the arboretum, and sneak up on the
trains).

Cheers,
Jim Guthrie
