I too, used to visit my grandparents in Roanoke (Lloyd Fisher - N&W
passenger shop upholsterer) & go to the N&W station every evening in the 1950's &
60's. My cousin, Earl Fisher, directed the yard crew to add & remove cars
from passenger trains always referred to the maroon GP7's as Red Birds. I
thought that was "universal" lingo by N&W guys.
