According to my records, the last day of operation of Punkin' Vine trains 11
and 12 was Saturday, February 18, 1961.

No. 11 consisted of 5 coaches and a head end car, handled by units 520-509.
The extra coaches were run to accommodate an overflow crowd of passengers on
the final day of operation. It arrived North Winston Yard at 3:05 PM, 22
minutes late.

For the final months of operation, because of a highway construction project
near the W-S Union Station, Nos. 11 and 12 "turned" at North Winston.
Passengers were handled between there and Union Station by taxicab.

On the final trip, No. 12, with units 509-520, left North Winston at 3:33
PM, met No. 53 at Mayodan, and arrived in Roanoke at 7:25 pm, 40 minutes
late. The delays en route were due to handling the large number of
passengers, which "The Roanoke Times" reported the next day had been a total
of 755 for both trips.
