Jim Brewer asks about the "earlier edition" of the Roanoke list of sidings.

A PDF is attached. The document is titled "Alphabetical-Numerical List of
Sidings and Team Track Within Roanoke Terminal Switching Limits, October 1,
1956."

The significance of a list formulated in 1956 is that it was just before
the 1957 Recession, which cleaned out a lot of businesses in Roanoke (and
everywhere else, too.)

I am not sure if a later edition of this document was issued. This may have
been the last one.

The pages were scanned at their original size, but at a sufficiently high
resolution to enable blow-up for reading in your PDF viewer. Even viewed at
500% magnification, the text is reasonably sharp. The PDF file was run
through Mr. Adobe's Atomic File Smasher to reduce its size to a manageable
level.

I recall once seeing a similar list (same binding, same format) for some
other terminal area on the N&W, but can't recall which one. It might have
been for Bluefield, as I remember wondering why a list would be published
for such a small terminal area. Or perhaps it was for Columbus. Given its
size, Norfolk may have been covered by a similar document.

Somewhere, Jim, I should still have a copy of the B&O Form 6 covering the
entire system, from about 1915 or so. Might have loaned it out, and you
know what happens next... It does not show patron names, however. Looked
for it a month ago when Bob Cohen was here for a visit, and it was "absent
without official leave."
