N&W K-3 tender

The NWSL tender has the fishbelly frame, which would be correct for the 18k tender, but its length is too short. It is the same length as the 16k tender. On the prototype, there were not nearly as many 18k tenders as there were the more common 16k tenders. However, in the 1950's many of the 16k tenders were converted to auxiliary tenders, leaving the 18k as the more common one behind surviving older engines. BTW: the Y2's that went to Rio Grande and the Y3's that went to AT&SF (later Vgn) and UP had 16k tenders. Interestingly, the Y3's that went to PRR had 18k tenders.

Wow. I thought the NWSL 18,000G 26T tender was the most common one. I sort of like that fishbelly frame.
Thanks,Jim.

26 tons and 16,000 gallons, and yes, used on several other classes at one time or another, including K1, K2, Y2, Y3, Y4, Z1 and Z2. This was probably the most common large tender in terms of classes that used it.

I have 2 spare Sunset K-3 tenders. What were their actual capacities and were they used on other N&W engines?
