Norfolk Southern moving to a Centralized Train Dispatching Center

It’s kind of like carrying all your eggs in one basket . Drop the basket and break all your eggs at the same time. For the security of this nation seems like a bone head move.

CSX had all train dispatching centralized in Jacksonville some years ago.  They then decentralized it for a period of time prior to moving it all back to Jacksonville recently.  BNSF has for some time had its train dispatching centralized in Ft Worth, TX.  Union Pacific has centralized dispatching at their Harriman Dispatching Center in Omaha, NE.   So with this move NS is aligning itself with the current industry standard.......whether its a good thing or not only time will tell.  I also seem to recall that the N&W once considered centralizing their system dispatching in Roanoke?

Isn’t that what CSX has been doing for a bunch of years now and when there’s a hiccup, the whole system goes down, instead of just a regional problem?

An NS employee told me the same thing this morning. He wasn't happy because not only does it disrupt the employees and their families, but the dispatchers loose touch with the local areas.

My understanding per multiple NS sources yesterday is that Norfolk Southern will move all train dispatching for all divisions to the Goode Building in Atlanta, GA.
