JOHNSON, LUCIUS  E.,  President  Norfolk & Western Ry. in 1906.  Office
Roanoke, Va.  Born at Aurora, Ill.  Entered railroad service 1866 as
fireman Chicago Burlington & Quincy Rd, and remained in the locomotive
department of that road until 1886, holding various positions, including
that of master mechanic at Aurora, Ill.;  1886 to Dec. 1, 1888,
superintendent St. Louis division same road at Beardstown, Ill.;  Dec. 1,
1888 to Nov. 15, 1890, superintendent Chicago division same road at Aurora,
Ill.;  Nov. 15, 1890, to March 1893, Superintendent Montana Central Ry at
Helena, Mont.;  March 1893 to July 10, 1897, superintendent Michigan
division Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Ry;  July 10, 1897 to July 15,
1899, general superintendent Norfolk & Western Ry;  July 15, 1899, to March
5, 1902, general manager;  March 5, 1902 to Sept. 30, 1903, vice-president
and general manager; Sept. 30, 1903, to Feb. 1, 1904, president and general
manager; Feb. 1, 1904, to date president same road.


Attached is a more full account of Mr. Johnson's term as President of the
N&W, with a photograph, lifted from Jacks & Jacobis 1912 History of Roanoke
County.
