Thanks Jim,
I believe he did live in Crewe at one time. I don't think he had any connection to the Shen. Div., although he did grow up in the Harrisonburg, VA area.

Lynn.

There was a W. E. Hill engineer on the Norfolk Division that ran from Crewe to Norfolk.  He was promoted to engineer on Jan. 24 1916.

There was also a W. E. Hill on the Shenandoah Division. He was hired as a Fireman on April 30, 1916 and promoted to engineer on July 12, 1942.

Not sure if they were related. Was your W. Hill from Crewe?  If so perhaps the Norfolk division man was his father.

To complicate things there were a lot of people with the same last name on the N&W and even a W. L. Hill on the VGN New river line.

I am seeking information on my great-uncle Waldo Hill.  I believe he retired as an engineer after a long career with the N&W. At the age of 5-6 he took me onto a N&W yard, either Roanoke or Crewe, can't remember, and took me up in the cab of possibly a Y-6. I have a picture of myself standing on the front step of a steam engine but that is about all I remember about him.  I am now 70 so he has been gone a long time. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
