Larry -

Between Kermit and Tunnel 1 the track curves; coming out of the tunnel it curves to the left at the end of double track and then back to the right on the outskirts of Kermit. The only place there is this much tangent track is east of the end of double track at the east end of Tunnel 1. Of course, I haven’t been back in a long time and none of that double track may exist now, but it ded when the 611 was running that day.

Seems to me this is a westbound west of Williamson, maybe near Kermit. Wouldn’t the river be on the left side if this was eastbound? John Garner, Newport VA

Attached is an early image of N&W 611 in service. Four month old 611 cruises through light rain, just west of Williamson, WV with an eastbound, in September of 1950. I'm guessing that is what is now -US 52, with the Tug Fork River, just out of sight. Image is a "Blue Stamp" Rail Photo Service 5X7 by WG Fancher.
