Harry,  Would you happen to have the consist of 1st 4 from Roanoke on May 1, 1971? If I’m not mistaken Mr. Carter’s Business Car 101 carried the markers.   John Garner
Ken Miller is correct --  the train headed by NKP 759 was ID'ed as No. 4 and thetrain handling N&W 101 was ID'ed as a passenger extra with units 516-501.Conductor J. C. McKenney and Engineer D. F. Clark on duty at 9:45 AM.
Car #101 brought much misery to the N&W.  After the demise of Nos. 3 and 4,the way to get the car westbound was to  forwarded it on the rear of half-a-train of empties (about 90 cars). Then later on in the 1970s, a politician running for Governor of Virginia, boarded the car without permission near the Lamberts Point passenger station and showed a television crew how the well-to-do spent their  time.  After that, #101 was moved to Roanoke and when Carter needed to go west, the car had to be moved toLamberts Point first.
You didn't ask, but here's No. 18 for the same date:Eng 515Conductor Turner and Engineer Tom Angle  on duty 1:00 PMSOU   510 -  Lynchburg (Kemper Street)SOU 1016 -        "              "              "SOU  840  -        "              "              "N&W 502  -        "              "              "
