My original question is what ballast to use on recommended NW mainline/yard/siding (mfg/color).  Is Woodland Scenic the way to go?  White in color with a few flecks of black?
/Depends on which part of the N&W you want to model.  Remember thatballast was hauled non-revenue from quarry to dump site and the closestquarry got the business.  Also, there were parts of the Lake Erie andPittsburgh Divisions that used slag, a by-product of the steel mills.  Becauseof its metallurgical content, slag was known to conduct current and shuntsignals.   On Norfolk Terminal, the old NS even used oyster shells.
