K2 126 with doghouse

The doghouse may have been there for several reasons. One would be one 
or more states may have had rules on how much seating space had to be 
provided in a locomotive cab.

Another might be internal RR safety determinations, that the brakey 
could get back onto freight car tops whithout having to climb over the 
coal pile, especially if there was a stoker screw running.

And, there were many an engineer that did not want a brakeman in his 
cab. To the hogger, the brakeman was there to apply brakes, even if 
there was train air. There were a hanfful of that ilk on the Nickel 
Plate right to the end of WWII.
