KenThanks for sharing Ed Painter’s photo. I assumed she was delivered in “Pevler Blue” but could not find any photos on the internet…private or company. Would have thought as the first SD40 delivered there would have been a company photo made. 🤷‍♂️
Frustrating that the 1580’s horn was stolen. Do you know if it was the “standard” N&W 5-chime ? If so, might there be a possibility that NS would donate a replacement horn  from another ex-N&W SD40/SD40-2 on the dead line?
Thanks again for the information update on the 1580.

The 1580 was most certainly delivered in blue in May 1966, and will be restored to correct blue and scotchlite gold lettering for its premier.

The attached photo from Ed Painter depicts her at Bellevue in February 1976. This will be part of the article in the Arrow as soon as we have other images.

It is also of note to report that before the locomotive left Juniata Shops, someone stole the horn off the unit. Sad that thieves will damage preserved equipment.

> The blue paint was not a success, as painting methods for preparation work, particularly on the western end of the system resulted in poor cleaning and adhesion of the new paint, allowing in a fairly short time from the paint to come off, and reveal the older schemes below. With the poorer paint technology combined with poor prep work, the blue paint began to fade almost immediately, and washed out from a very dark blue to a badly weathered, faded blue.

The Archives did not have what are called color drift cards for the No.23 blue. Drift cards are factory made color samples to be used to test match the actual color as applied.
