Phil,

I'll do my best from memory as I didn't bring home a ballot, others like Mike R can probably correct me as he made pictures. As I recall the categories were at least for NW :

steam

diesel

passenger

freight

MOW

structure

For VGN:

steam

diesel

passenger

freight

structure

Photos:

color

b&w

I am sure I have some of these wrong and have probably omitted some, but use this for a basis and let me know what you think should be included.

Jim C.

Jim,

Can you refresh us on what the model categories were? How does this compare to past convention categories? Are there any we’d want to consider bringing back (if applicable)?

Jim: I have already decided on my clinic for next year - "Cabooses."

Everyone,

I realize that it has only been a few months since we gathered in Roanoke for our latest convention, however, I am a firm believer in success through early planning.

My recordings of a couple of the clinics were completely spur-of-the-moment with only my old handheld camera meant primarily for stills. Needless to say the results were somewhat less than stellar.

I know many of us are photographers and I would assume some might even be videographers, so I am asking for a couple volunteers to bring their equipment next year and help us produce some good recordings of the clinics/presentations. Please let us know what you can bring (camera, tripod, lights, microphone, ets.) so we can coordinate who will be bringing what.

And speaking of clinics/presentations, I would like to hear from all of you who would consider doing one on modeling, history or any other N&W, VGN or NS related topic. Furthermore, I would like to hear from all of you on what topics you would like to see covered in these sessions, even if you are not up for doing one yourself.

Having re-assumed responsibility for the modeling contest, I would also like to solicit your input on how that might be improved. . . new/different categories, rules modifications etc.

How about other convention activities? Some splinter interest groups get together for discussions on their favorite topics informally. If you would make your interests known to all, perhaps more folks with common interests could be brought together and specific times and places put in place for discussions. I for one am keenly interested in signals and signaling and would love to meet with others who are also interested.

It would appear we have been priced out of group transportation, but we shouldn't let that prohibit our excursions to visit points of interest around the convention site. If you own a “soccer mom” UV, please consider bringing it and sharing the ride.

Our conventions can be whatever we want them to be and are willing to make happen, so let your opinions be heard and volunteer to help in whatever ways you are able.
