From nw-mailing-list at nwhs.org Mon Dec 2 14:56:43 2024 From: nw-mailing-list at nwhs.org (NW Mailing List) Date: Mon, 2 Dec 2024 11:56:43 -0800 Subject: Proportion of HPa/HPb/HPc/HPd hopper rebuilds Message-ID: Dear List, During the HP hopper rebuilding program of 1923-32, how many HP cars were rebuilt into each of the HPa, HPb, HPc, and HPd subclasses? Were there any cars that persisted as unrebuilt HP cars? I am trying to understand the relative prevalence of each of these subclasses in the immediate pre-Depression (1929) era. Thanks for any help on this matter. Dan Miller -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Furthermore, these videos conveniently have continuous time markers allowing for ready scene identification. While some locations have not changed substantially (yet) and are readily identifiable, others are mere shadows or exist only in the memories of those fortunate enough to have seen them. I ask that each of you consider studying one or more of these films and identifying the locations of the scenes. Pick a location that you are familiar with or that you have been fortunate enough to have visited and go through a portion of one of the videos jotting down the time stamp and anything you can think of about the location and/or things depicted. I realize this will take some effort, but even if you do this for only a small segment, if we all combine our efforts, we should be able to document these fan trips in some fairly good detail. In order to reduce duplication of effort from having several people document scenes from Roanoke or Bluefield, I will volunteer to coordinate this undertaking. So send me a list of the video and time sections you are familiar with and willing to document, and I will do my best to prevent duplication by letting you know if anyone else has volunteered to explicate parts of what you are interested in. Who knows, if you work with someone else on the same footage, a more complete and detailed image may evolve. PLEASE consider doing even a small section of at least one of the videos, so that future generations can know the N&W as we have known it.
