BLI vs Specrum J

I have 1 ea of the Bachmann J's  The very first release was lacking in
true detail.
The latest version is most satisfactory (I am NOT a purist)  Thjere was a
problem with the locomotive ^ tender derailing on switches & curves. (as
low as 22" up to 30") as reported in the review w in Model Railroad News.
 I also experienced the problem. I contacted Bachmann and  arranged to
return it for exchange.  The replacement was fine.
I cannot afford the high prices of the BLI models, no matter how well
detailed they are and am not into digital /sound equipped pieces.  I have
several Bachmann Spectrum series steamers and am very satisfied with
their detail, quality and their operation.
