610 at Chicago

The 610 did not have the vents in the pilot in 1948. I think these were added in the mid fifties. Does the model 610 have these? IF BLI modeled the J for the fifties then I believe they had the solid pilot wheels, not the spoked.

With currently available models, it wouldn't be
possible to replicate the Chicago scene without
modifications. Class J 610 would be OK as long as the
steps on the pilot were changed to match the style in
the photo.

The T1 would be another story. The T1 in the photo is
one of the as-built prototypes which were different
from the BLI models. The shrouding and skirting are
more extensive. The BLI model reflects the production
lot of 50 after they were modified with much-reduced
skirting.

However, all is far from lost. During the 1948 J/T1
tests on N&W, 5511 was run from Roanoke to
Christiansburg and later from Poe to Suffolk. It also
traveled from Columbus to the test sites over N&W's
main line. By this time, 5511 had been modified to
match the available models. So it wouldn't be much of
a stretch to have a J and T1 operating together based
on that.
